  • School's out for Summer

It's the end of another school year and time to thank the teachers, TAs and school staff for their work. For several reasons, this year I only made Thank You cards.

The envelopes were embellished with school themed stickers. The apple appliqués were cut with Sizzix dies and hand stitched. The background papers are pages from a children's book and distressed around the edges.

  • A shawl and a few appliqués

This is a shawl I've been working on and off for at least a couple of months now. It's called Eva's Shawl and I found the pattern here. I really like these 3 colours together and how it's coming along. I hope my mum does too!

I've also been making a few of these...

I'll show you the finished items where they will be used very soon.

  • Crochet puffs or yo-yos

    Aren't these lovely?

I came across the crochet version of the fabric yo-yos in a book borrowed from the library. The book in question is Crocheted Throws & Wraps by Melody Griffiths, ISBN 978-1-906525-77-4.

One of the projects in the book is the pretty blanket you see in the picture below, made up of crochet puffs or yo-yos.

I did try to have a go at making them by following the instructions but somehow couldn't understand how to work the 2nd round. Thank goodness for the web though, after a few minutes searching I found not only step-by-step photos but also a diagram here.

These crochet yo-yos are easy and quick to make and can be used in a variety of projects; join a few to make a blanket, scarf, shawl, etc. or use them as embellishments on headbands, hairclips, brooches, anything you can think of.

  • Time capsule for July and a few commissions

Hello and welcome to my July time capsule!

This time I'm sharing with you a few of the items I made last year for the Summer Fair at my son's school.

The pretty crochet bows above are my own design and so easy to make. I used these on elastic bands for the girls' hair but you can use them to embellish clothes, headbands, hairclips, whatever you can think of really.

I also made a few charms/pendants that can be used on mobile phones or handbags and a felt game of noughts and crosses to help keep Alex entertained on the plane when we went on holiday. Because it's light and foldable it's very easy to carry and takes almost no space at all in your handbag. If you'd like to make one you'll find the tutorial here.

More recently I was asked to make a Wedding card and I also completed an order for a new set of mums, 10 this time, that will be sold through the Send My Card web site.

Meanwhile I'm trying to finish the body of my crochet blanket so I can start working on the border. Only a few more rows to go I think and then I'll be On the Edge.
